Tell me if you heard this one before. It goes like this:

A terrible, contagious a deadly disease came to a town and local officials sent out an emergency warning ordering everyone in the town to stay at home unless leaving was essential and necessary.

A faithful Christian man heard the warning and said to himself, “I trust in God and pray every day. If needed, He will send a divine miracle to protect me, keep me healthy and safe. And since today is Sunday, I will go to church.”

A neighbor saw him walking down the street and yelled to him through a second story window, “Why have you left your house? There is stay at home order unless leaving is essential and necessary.” The man said it reply, “It is Sunday. I am going to church. That is both essential and necessary to me.”

“If that it is the case,” said the neighbor, “please take this mask to wear. It will keep you from getting sick. The man declined saying, “I am faithful Christian man. I trust in God and pray every day. If needed, He will send a divine miracle to protect me, keep me healthy and safe.” And the man continued on his way.

As the man approached the church, he saw that it was closed. The man then went to the rectory demanding to speak to the pastor saying: “This is Sunday. I have come to church to worship God.” The Pastor, through a closed door said in reply, “The church is closed by order of local authorities. God understands the situation and you will not be at fault for not attending church, even though it is Sunday. Now please go back home, read your bible and pray. It is not safe for you to be here. I have contracted this terrible, contagious and deadly disease.” The man said to the Pastor before leaving, “It is alright Pastor. I am a faithful Christian man. I trust in God and pray every day. If needed, He will send a divine miracle to protect me, keep me healthy and safe.” And he left there and went looking for other churches, but they were all closed.

As the man was walking back home, he passed a medical clinic that was set up in an empty parking lot. A doctor saw the man and shouted to him, “Sir! Sir! We have just received a vaccine for this terrible, contagious and deadly disease. Come, let us give you a shot. It will keep you healthy so you may live a long and productive life. The man said to the doctor, “No, thank you, doctor. You see, I am a faithful Christian man. I trust in God and pray every day. If needed, He will send a divine miracle to protect me, keep me healthy and safe.”

The man finally returned home and went to bed.

The next morning, the man awoke to find that he contracted this terrible, contagious and deadly disease. When his family and friends found out they called and urged him to go to the hospital for care. To each one he said, “I am a faithful Christian man. I trust in God and pray every day. If needed, He will send a divine miracle to protect me, keep me healthy and safe.”

By evening, the man had died.

When in Heaven, the man stood before God and asked, “Lord. I was a faithful Christian man. I trusted you and prayed every day. I thought that If needed, you would send a divine miracle to protect me, keep me healthy and safe. Why didn’t you?”

And God said to the man, “Son, I sent you a stay at home order. I offered a mask. I sent you a Pastor who told you it was okay not to go to church. I sent you a doctor who offered you a vaccine. And I sent your family and friends to urge you to go the hospital for care. Seriously, how much more divine were you looking for?”

Or at least something like that.
