The Pastoral Council is here to help our pastor understand what we want our parish to achieve and how to make it happen. We are the “keepers of the vision” for St. Mark. We plan for the future of our parish in consultation with parishioners, staff and experts.
The work of the pastoral council is to examine and consider all that relates to pastoral work and to offer practical conclusions on these matters, so that the life and activity of the People of God may be brought into greater conformity with the Gospel.
Our role is to:
- Examine: Identify issues at the request of the pastor or at its own initiation.
- Consider: Consider data collected from its examination and discern the direction God would like us to go.
- Recommend: Propose what should be done for this parish at this moment in its history.
After the pastoral council makes its recommendations to the pastor and staff, its work is complete. However, as active members of our parish (distinct from our pastoral council responsibilities) we will often join in work to help carry out the pastor’s decisions. The pastor may chose not to follow the pastoral council’s recommendations.
The Pastor strives to form a council that reflects the parish’s diversity and brings talents needed to carry out the council’s duties. While some members bring experience as leaders of parish organizations & ministries, their role on the council is to support the parish mission and not to be an advocate for any particular ministry or organization.
